Modern Interior Decor Styles
Modern Style is often described as Clean-lined, this approach focuses first and foremost on function and avoids the excessive accessories evident in many other styles. Another trend that is very popular is to combine elements of modern style with other decorating styles. For example Asian Modern or Rustic Modern. Some people shy away from the modern design because they think it is too simple, harsh or cold. In contrary, when well planned it can promote a sense of serenity and simplicity to your home.

Smooth surfaces, clean and an uncluttered appearance characterize contemporary style interior design. For ideas look at stores like Ikea that have a lot to choose from when it comes to contemporary style interior design - everything you'll need from clever storage systems to funky chairs and minimal style furniture. While modern style is as rich and varied as its traditional counterpart, there are a few things that most contemporary styled homes have in common:

Transitional style in home décor is defined as the blending of traditional with contemporary styles. The union of these two styles creates a classic, sophisticated, and uncomplicated atmosphere. A minimalist approach is taken by using a neutral color palette and choosing very few accessories. The focus is kept on the simplicity yet sophistication of the design. This style is popular because it’s comfortable yet refined.
Colors - Think monochromatic: taupe, tan, and vanilla. Dark brown wood tones are often added for depth.
Furniture - Curves combined with straight lines create a balanced and comfortable atmosphere. Not too masculine or feminine. Simple yet refined. Shaker and mission style furniture pieces are often a nice match for transitional style.
Accessories - Carefully selected accessories may include artwork or photos in simple frames. The metal chosen is usually brushed silver or nickel. Look for a signature piece such as a single floral stem in a contemporary vase, or a wooden tray with silver candle holders.
Fabrics - Fabric-Lots of textures make up for the lack of color in the room: chenille, corduroy, cotton, leather, twill, tweed, and ultra suedes. Flooring is also kept neutral with warm toned wood floors and soft colored carpets.
